Jody L. Whisenant, O.D.

Dr. Whisenant is a native of Albany, Ga who graduated from Georgia-Cumberland Academy in Calhoun, GA. He attended Walla Walla College and Southern Missionary College before graduating with honors from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN in 1983. He began practicing in Gainesville in 1983 working for Charles K. Bradley, M.D., then Stephen J. Farkas, M.D. until 1991 when he formed EyeCare Associates, P.C. with Thomas J. Rossi, O.D.

He is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), Southern Council of Optometrists (SECO)--recognized as a Southern Diplomat in 2002, and the Georgia Optometric Association (GOA) for whom he served as President and Chairman of the Executive Board. The GOA has recognized him several times including multiple Presidential Citations, Young Optometrist of the Year--1988, and Optometrist of the Year--1999. He currently serves as President of the Georgia State Board of Optometry, having been appointed by Governor Nathan Deal.

He has served as a clinical investigator for Alcon Laboratories, Ciba Vision, and Vistakon in the areas of contact lenses and contact lens solutions as well as a clinical sub-investigator for Jonathon Woolfson, M.D. in the field of LASIK eye surgery involving pre- and post-operative care.

His community service includes many years, now retired, as a member and officer of the Lion's Club-Memphis Mid-Town, Gainesville Jaycees, Rotary Club of Gainesville, American Cancer Society--Hall County Chairman, American Heart Association, Salvation Army, United Way, and Chamber of Commerce. He has assisted patients through the Piedmont Migrant Education Association and currently provides volunteer eye care for the Good News at Noon Clinic and Health Care Access Initiative. He has also volunteered as a Hall County youth football and baseball coach for many years and now supports many of his former players through participation in the North Hall High School Touchdown Club.

He enjoys spending time with his wife, three adult daughters, and four grandchildren as well as traveling worldwide, attending sporting events, working outdoors, and exercising.
